To add to what has been already been said; I think also the comments about Mickey pushing the beat, and Bill playing behind the beat , are relevant here . It was just harder to rejoin what had been broken . Sometimes it was all fine, but at others, you get that lumpy, sloggy feel , from the drummers being "off" .
I just saw Billy with his 7 Walkers band, he was great . Nothing flashy , a little laid back, but solid . I realized I hadn't seen him drumming alone since 78 !
